AI and email marketing: how will it change the landscape?

AI is about to revolutionize the marketing landscape. With the tools that OpenAI (the company behind ChatGPT) offers us, developers are busy exploring all the possibilities that will see the light of day one tool after another. Marketers are also already working hard to significantly improve their output and workflow. What does this mean for email marketing? A whole new way of dealing with email marketing that offers us a lot of benefits. Nevertheless, it is exciting to see exactly what these changes will mean in the longer term. Will the email marketer still exist?

AI Tools and Email Service Providers

AI tools are springing up like mushrooms. From plugins that can answer your emails to creating digital art, the possibilities are endless. There are also more and more productivity tools that make content marketers sweat. It is therefore not a matter. whether these technologies will find their way into familiar email tools, but when.

Integrating AI tools into the software of large and small ESPs is inevitable. With the push of a button, subject lines can soon be generated automatically, texts can be improved and even images based on the content can be created automatically. And who knows what kind of start-ups will emerge that develop a new ESP with next-level AI tools integrated into the core. In short: future AI tools will take email marketing to the next level, and that may be sooner than you think.

What is already possible?

How concrete will it be soon? I myself have developed a few examples that deliver amazingly good results. Generating a subject line based on a short description, in multiple languages with various options, up to and including rewriting texts based on Cialdini's 7 principles. The latter is often quite difficult and requires a lot of content knowledge, but with OpenAI by your side, you are assured of a good and fast result without having to dive deep into the matter. A game changer for writing engaging emails!

Will the email marketer still exist in the future?

Although a hammer doesn't build a house, it does help with construction. This is also the case with email marketing: AI tools can take over many tasks, but the skilled hand of an expert is still essential. Modern email marketing requires creativity and a keen eye for detail. You need to come up with customer journeys that fit the big picture and integrate all the wishes of multiple stakeholders into a complex digital environment. In short: a skilled person helps you achieve a good result, no matter what tools are used.

If you look into the past, you'll see that new technology is always making big changes. Simple tasks that people often perform are increasingly being replaced by technology. With applicable AI, this will be no different. Consider, for example, a marketing manager who currently still hires a junior content marketer. With the right AI tools, you can already generate better texts yourself in a very short time - why waste extra resources? And so there are many more jobs in the marketing world that are about to disappear. All the more reason to specialize, deepen and keep developing your creativity!
