My first month at Yellowgrape

Starting at Yellowgrape, how does that actually work? My name is Matz and I've been with Yellowgrape as Junior Campaign Manager since February 1. Starting a new job is of course always exciting, but also a fun challenge. In this blog, you can read all about my first month at Yellowgrape!

In my search for a position in online marketing, I mainly focused on Instagram under the hashtag #onlinemarketing. Online marketing is a broad concept and the range of jobs and opportunities within this industry is therefore very extensive. While scrolling through my timeline, I suddenly came across a sleek, yellow post from Yellowgrape. This caught my attention right away! After doing some research, I saw that there was a vacancy open for the position of Junior Campaign Manager.

Shortly after I submitted my application, I was invited to meet. After a two-interview application process, in which it was very clear what Yellowgrape stands for, what the core values are and what the organization's vision for the future, I knew: “This is where I want to start my career and further expand my knowledge!” The first meeting was mainly intended to see if there is a good match between Yellowgrape and me. In the second conversation, we delved deeper into the position and whether it also suits me. Fortunately, after the talks, I received the good news that I was hired and could start immediately.

Ready, set, go!

I can't say anything other than that the first month has gone by at a rapid pace. Yellowgrape has given me a lot of positive energy, especially during this period. The first day was very exciting for me: new colleagues, a new environment and a new workplace. Fortunately, I was not alone that day, as two new colleagues, Jeroen and Shannon, started this day. The first few days were mainly meant to absorb as much information as possible and get to know colleagues through introductory discussions and coffee moments. A presentation was also given about Yellowgrape as an organization, strategy and culture.

During my first month at Yellowgrape, I was fully supervised by my direct colleagues from the campaign team, focusing on gaining knowledge about tools and online marketing in every sense of the word. In addition, I was assigned a supervisor with whom I met weekly so that I could spar 1 on 1 and ask questions. This was also a time to evaluate, discuss what I might run into and what the areas for improvement are. I myself thought this was a very nice method, because it allowed me to get all the way into it. All in all, I really enjoyed my first month at Yellowgrape.

Expectations versus reality

Looking back on my first few weeks at Yellowgrape and how things have been going so far, I feel at home with Yellowgrape and my new colleagues. Everyone is ambitious, eager to learn and keep challenging themselves. What I also noticed is that here, as a 'newbie', you are taken seriously from the first moment and are really part of the organization, regardless of your experience and role within the company. In addition, you will be well taken into the strategy and all developments within the company during the weekly stand-up meetings with the entire team. Everyone keeps each other informed about all projects and activities, so you really feel connected to the entire organization

My 5 most important tips

At the end of this blog, I share my tips for your first weeks with a new organization:

  • Be yourself
The first tip, although it may sound cliché, is above all be yourself! Everyone at Yellowgrape is unique in their own way, so you can be yourself. The nice thing is also that it takes into account the fact that you are new and you are not expected to be able and know everything already. Certainly don't want this of yourself either.
  • Do you read carefully?
What I could have done myself; pre-read. It doesn't hurt to read up on certain topics and the organization itself in advance. In the case of Yellowgrape, there is already a lot of information on the website itself.
  • Ask questions
A very simple but important tip: ask questions, the more the better. This has helped me a lot during the induction process. Both in terms of work and organizational culture. After all, the more you know, the better and the more fun the job becomes.
  • Making mistakes is okay
Making mistakes is human and that's okay. At Yellowgrape, making mistakes is not considered a problem, but a good way to learn. Personally, I am convinced that making mistakes is one of the fastest and most effective forms of development.
  • Get to know your colleagues
One of the most important and final tips I want to give you is: get to know your colleagues! It is not without reason that the 'Yellowfamily' is one of the core values within Yellowgrape. A lot of value is attached to this and that is also reflected in the culture and in the workplace. So make sure you take your time to schedule introductory meetings and get to know your colleagues better, especially in the first few weeks.
